The National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) has implemented strict disciplinary action against 16 members of its community—comprising two faculty members, one administrative official, and thirteen students—after their complicity in interfering with the July Uprising was confirmed. The action stems from credible accusations of obstruction, the issuing of threats, and creating a hostile environment during the crucial period of the movement. The 90th Syndicate meeting of the university formally sanctioned these penalties after reviewing the comprehensive report submitted by the special investigation committee and the subsequent recommendations made by the disciplinary body. The two punished faculty members are Sanjay Kumar Mukherjee, former Proctor and a teacher in the Department of Public Administration and Government Studies, and Dr. Md. Mehedi Ullah, former Director of the Department of Student Counselling and a teacher in the Folklore Department. The penalized official is Krishibid Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir, the former Registrar. All three have been placed on temporary suspension from their university posts.
The punishment for the thirteen students varies based on their current academic status. Students who maintain active studentship have been handed permanent expulsion. Crucially, for those who have completed their studies, the university has decided to cancel both their Bachelor's and Master's degree certificates. Prominently named in this list are Al Mahmud Kayes and Md. Rashedul Islam Riyel Sarker, the President and General Secretary, respectively, of the now-banned Chhatra League's university unit. The investigative process was initiated with the formation of a 10-member committee on April 16, tasked with examining accusations including obstruction of the anti-discrimination movement, threats of sexual assault, denial of necessary medical aid, and general instigation.
